Chiropractic Adjustment

Chiropractic adjusting or manipulation is a high velocity, low amplitude thrust used to restore proper alignment and function to joints. Adjusting can have some of the following affects:

  • Outside the Joints (Myofascial (layer of connective tissue that covers muscles) and Ligamentous)- Which can increase flexibility, promote functional healing, control scar tissue, and reverse effects of adhesions.

  • Inside the Joints- Release entrapped meniscoids, unlock intra-articular adhesions, improve nutrients to joints (speeds up healing time), and has a potential to minimize or prevent DJD.

  • Nervous system- Decrease nerve compression by improving joint dynamics, increasing dimensions of the IVF (the part of spine where the nerve root comes out of the spine), and improving circulation to the nerve root. Adjusting can also change compression from constant to intermittent and increase axoplasmic flow. Adjusting can also create neurological reflexes which can help to relax muscles, stimulate the

  •  different organ systems of the body, normalize nerve flow, decrease pain through the "Gate" mechanism, and release endorphins to help relieve pain.

  • Vascular- Adjusting can increase blood flow to the area which can help decrease inflammation and increase the nutrients needed to heal, thus it can decrease the time needed for the healing process.

  • Unknown- There are thousands of different clinical experiences where chiropractic has been known to help, but the direct connection is unknown. For example: constipation, colic, IBS, asthma, allergies, sinus problems, dysmenorrhea, hypertension, enuresis, and many more.
