Is it bad to pop your neck and back?

 

The answer is yes and no. There are a few problems with “popping” your own neck or back. First, when you adjust your own neck or back you often are manipulating the same area every time, which is likely not the area that needs to be adjusted. Second, this can become very habit forming and is often performed multiple times a day. Third, repetitive “popping” can begin to stretch the joint capsules and ligaments which can cause damage to the joints.

However, if you have enough training and skills to know where, when, and how your back or neck needs to be adjusted; and if you can avoid the repetitive nature, adjusting your own back and neck might not be harmful.
